Collections… it’s a funny thing to think of how they begin. As a young girl I loved to sit on the living room floor with my mother’s old cookie tin full of castaway buttons. I’d reach in, scoop up a handful and let them drip through my fingers. I guess I liked the sound and the feel of them in my hand as they spilled back into the tin.

As I look around my studio, at all my jars of buttons (among other things), I see how influential that small moment was. I suppose those childhood moments play a large part in the way I approach my art, using bits and scraps, things I can’t bring myself to throw away.

Which brings me to the work I’m sharing here. My current artistic expression uses common plastic bags destined for landfill. They are layered and melted, cut and remelted, sometimes with a specific idea in mind and often the result of just playing around. Playing is the best part. When you can let go of preconceived notions and let it flow…magical!

Always ready to explore a new medium, I also work in textile design, encaustic, acrylic, oil, cold wax, assemblage, and collage.

I hope you enjoy looking at my work!
